Closing of the exhibition on

The exhibition on "Democracy through Law", co-organised by the Council of Europe and the Venice Commission with MuVE and the State Archives of Venice, has come to an end. It opened at the Doge's Palace on 11 October 2025; the museum attracted around 280,000 visitors over the course of three months.

"The exhibition was not just a celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe", said Marta Cartabia, President of the Venice Commission. “It was a journey through the history of the Most Serene Republic of Venice to speak to our present history, to rediscover the roots of the fundamental values of the Council of Europe - democracy, the rule of law, fundamental rights and freedoms - which today face unprecedented challenges. The exhibition allowed us to reflect on these fundamental values through the beauty of the symbols displayed in a unique setting."
