On 10 October, the Venice Commission welcomed students and researchers from the Universities of Padua and Ca' Foscari of Venice to its 148th Plenary Session in Venice.
As part of an initiative to open the institution to the public, students had the opportunity to discover first-hand how the Commission works and why its role matters for democracy and the rule of law.
Organised by the Venice Commission in close collaboration with the Council of Europe Office in Venice, the visit is part of a project designed to offer a unique insight into the Commission's work. The initiative aims to clarify the complex inner workings of international bodies and demonstrate their tangible impact on democratic governance.
After the Plenary Session, the students had the opportunity to exchange with the President of the Commission, Marta Cartabia and with other members of the Commission and its Secretariat.
They were accompanied by Vice-Rectors Vania Brino and Claudia Irti from the Ca' Foscari University of Venice and Professor Stefania Gialdroni from the University of Padua.
