On 27-29 May 2026, a delegation of the Venice Commission held a series of meetings in Tirana in view of the preparation for the Joint Opinion of the Venice Commission and the Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law (DGI) of the Council of Europe on the Draft law "On the Financing of Political Parties". This opinion was requested by Mr Niko Paleshi, Speaker of Parliament of the Republic of Albania.

The delegation held exchanges with the Speaker of Parliament, the Minister of Local Governance, the Co-Chairs and other representatives of the Parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee on Electoral Reform, the Supreme State Audit Institution of Albania, the governing and opposition parties, as well as some civil society organisations and international organisations including the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Albania and the European Commission and the Organization for Security and Co-Operation (OSCE) Presence in Albania.

The draft opinion is scheduled for discussion and adoption at the June Plenary Session of the Venice Commission (12-13 June 2026).
