The President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, Marc Cools, has made the following statement:
“I am saddened and appalled by yesterday’s shooting at an adult education centre in the city of Örebro in Sweden. My thoughts in this tragic moment are with the Swedish authorities and the city administration, with the victims and their families, and with those who were trapped in the classroom and feared for their lives. No one should ever experience such fear and uncertainty. I wish speedy recovery to those who were injured in this horrible attack.
“At all levels of governance, we must do our utmost to prevent such violence in our societies.”
