The autumn session of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities will focus on financing Ukraine’s recovery, addressing democratic backsliding and the contribution of local and regional authorities to the New Democratic Pact for Europe, rights of LGBTI people, coastal erosion, overtourism, rural exodus and school absenteeism.
The session’s draft agenda also features reports on the application of the European Charter of Local Self-Government in Albania, Switzerland and the smallest States, as well as and on the observation of local elections in several member states.
The Congress will also vote on a draft resolution in the context of its intervention in the case of imprisoned Mayor of Istanbul İmamoğlu v. Türkiye before the European Court of Human Rights.
Congress members will exchange views with Secretary General Alain Berset and Interior Minister of Monaco Lionel Beffre, on behalf of the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers. Slovenia’s Minister of Local Self-Government, Cohesion and Regional Development Monika Kirbiš Rojs, and Ukraine’s Minister for Communities, Territories and Internally Displaced Persons Vitalii Bezghin will also address the Congress.
