Supporting front-line professionals and civil servants in implementing effective guardianship for children in the context of migration

On 23–24 January 2026, the Council of Europe project “Protecting the Rights of Children in Armenia” held a capacity-building session on effective guardianship for children, including unaccompanied and separated children in the context of migration. The two-day training equipped 20 participants, notably community social workers with skills and tools to provide assistance to this group of children in line with European standards and reformed domestic legislation. Based on the Manual on Effective Guardianship for Unaccompanied and Separated Children in the Context of Migration, adapted to the Armenian context, the training concluded the completion of a series of similar sessions conducted across all regions of Armenia. Additionally, two Q&A booklets – for professionals and children  (in Armenian) – were distributed, providing practical guidance to help participants and their peers apply guardianship principles in everyday practice. Participants welcomed the training and underlined the value of sharing practical experiences in dealing with protection of children’s rights in post-conflict contexts.
