The Council of Europe Division on Migration and Refugees (DMR) organised the 22nd meeting of the Inter-Secretariat Coordination Group on Migration (CGM) today, bringing together key monitoring bodies and entities to review progress, discuss emerging challenges, and reinforce internal coordination and impact in the field of migration.

Opening the session, Clare Ovey, Director of Human Rights Directorate, underlined the importance of sustained inter-secretariat coordination in addressing evolving migration-related challenges and the important role that DMR may play in this context.

The meeting featured a series of presentations providing updates and taking stock of ongoing migration-related activities from the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) the Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA), the Department for the Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights (DEJ), the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI),  and the Committee of the Parties to the Lanzarote Convention.

The meeting concluded with reflections on possible further reinforcement of internal exchange of information and coordination of migration-related activities by Nikos Sitaropoulos, head of the Division on Migration and Refugees.

This was also an opprtunity to share the latest DMR publications, including the Frequently asked questions on the European Court on Human Rights and migration; the report on the first Council of Europe’s roundtable on the fact-based communication; the Migration key facts sheet and the thematic paper on Vulnerability of migrants, asylum seekers and refugees: Council of Europe and European Union standards.
