Human rights in migration: Division on Migration and Refugees and Frontex meet in Strasbourg

On 22 January, the Division on Migration and Refugees (DMR) held a meeting in Strasbourg with the Frontex Fundamental Rights Officer as part of their longstanding cooperation and regular exchanges.

The meeting between the Head of the DMR, Nikos Sitaropoulos, and the Frontex Fundamental Rights Officer, Jonas Grimheden, provided an opportunity to discuss good practices and exchange updates on recent developments in European migration-related policies, including border management and human rights protection. Participants also shared views on current challenges and priorities, as well as on ways to further strengthen human-rights-based approaches to migration governance.

The discussion reaffirmed the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation between the Council of Europe and Frontex, notably through the periodic meetings of the Frontex Consultative Forum, where DMR represents the Council of Europe.
