The Council of Europe Consultation Group on the Children of Ukraine (CGU) held its 10th plenary meeting on 2-3 July 2026 in Strasbourg, bringing together 112 members and experts to advance co-operation on safe return procedures, inclusive support for children with disabilities, trauma‑informed education, and child‑sensitive accountability for conflict‑related sexual violence. Participants also reviewed key operational tools and reaffirmed the CGU’s role as a multidisciplinary platform translating international standards into coordinated, cross‑border protection efforts.

A central moment of the meeting was a high‑level tripartite exchange with Thórdís Kolbrún Reykfjord Gylfadóttir (Special Envoy of the Council of Europe Secretary General on the situation of children of Ukraine), Vanessa Frazier (UN SRSG for Children and Armed Conflict), and Carina Ödebrink (Special Envoy of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly). The discussion focused on international accountability, the urgent return of unlawfully deported and forcibly transferred children, and protection of children in temporarily occupied territories.
