Further to the request of the Supreme Court Working Group to develop recommendations with regard to the issue of the excessive length of judicial proceedings in Ukraine, the Council of Europe project "Further support for the execution by Ukraine of judgments in respect of Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights" (Project) prepared an overview of practices of the Council of Europe members states in introducing effective remedies to solve the problem of the excessive length of judicial proceedings.

The Project is funded by the Human Rights Trust Fund and implemented by the Justice and Legal Co-operation Department of the Council of Europe.

This overview provides a follow-up research to the previous report on excessive length of judicial proceedings. It includes updated information on the relevant case-law of the European Court of Human Rights and the decisions of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. It also provides recommendations on the legislative changes leading to the introduction of remedies against the lengthy judicial proceedings.
