Volyn Regional Youth Centre implements trauma-informed youth work

On 21-23 October 2026, the Volyn Regional Youth Centre held a specialized training "Trauma-Informed Youth Work" within the framework of the state programme "Youth Worker" in Lutsk.

The training took place in a shelter and brought together youth workers of the Volyn region. The participants expanded their professional knowledge and got acquainted with approaches to working with young people who are under the influence of stress and experiencing the consequences of traumatic events.

As part of the training, the peculiarities of traumatic stress, the rights of young people, the formation of a safe space, methods of self-regulation, psychological first aid and the use of coping strategies were discussed.

An important part of the training was practical work. Participants analysed real situations, shared their own experience, studied Ukrainian and international practices, and developed tools that they can use in their future activities.

The training was an opportunity to deepen professional competencies, strengthen the capacity of employees and develop approaches to creating a safe, responsive and supportive environment for young people, taking into account their experience and current needs.

The Youth Worker Program is implemented by the All-Ukrainian Youth Centre and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine in co-operation with the United Nations Development Programme in Ukraine.

The training was organized by the Regional Municipal Institution "Volyn Regional Youth Centre" with the support of the Department of Youth and Sports of the Volyn Regional State Administration and with the friendly assistance of the Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University.

The specialised training developed by the Council of Europe. Participants and participants received the Council of Europe manual "Trauma Informed Youth Work", "Handbook "Traumatic Events: Psychological Support and Self-Help" and posters on resilience and recovery.
