The Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights' Office staff underwent a capacity-building training in Truskavets from October 2nd to 5th, 2024. The training focused on non-discrimination, the rights of national minorities, and effective public communication. The training was informed by a previous institutional assessment report, providing valuable insights into the Office’s strengths and areas of improvement.

Opening remarks were delivered by Martin Mühleck, Head of the Ukraine Service within the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Partnerships (DG NEAR) of the European Commission. Mr. Mühleck emphasized the critical role played by the Ombudsperson's Office in safeguarding human rights and ensuring the ongoing protection of the rights of national minorities in Ukraine. Furthermore, Oleksandr Osipov, Representative of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, underscored the invaluable cooperation provided by the Council of Europe in enhancing the professional capabilities of the Ombudsperson's Office staff in the field of human rights protection.

The training sought to enhance the Ombudsperson's Office's expertise in the Council of Europe's non-discrimination framework. It aimed to promote the Council's values, principles, and resources related to the rights of national minorities among the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner's staff. Additionally, the training fostered collaboration among various departments within the Commissioner's Office, including those focused on equal rights, domestic violence, information policy, human trafficking, and civil and political rights.

The event was held with the support of the joint project of the Council of Europe and the European Union "Supporting the implementation of European standards on anti-discrimination and the rights of national minorities in Ukraine".
