On 2 May 2025 young people from different regions of Ukraine – activists and leaders of youth initiatives of ethnic German SCOs – learned about the resources and opportunities of the Council of Europe in the youth sphere, in particular, mastered a new board game about young people’s participation “Solutions exist!” developed by the Council of Europe and young people in 2024.
The presentation of the Council of Europe’s activities in the field of youth took place within the framework of the BIZ All-Ukrainian Seminar on Youth Work, organised by the CO “German House – Kyiv” on the initiative of the Council of Germans of Ukraine with the financial support of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Integrated Territorial Development of Germany through the Charitable Foundation “Development Society”.
During the game “Solutions exist!” participants explored in practice policies that affect young people and ways to strengthen these policies; barriers that may hinder youth participation; conditions, circumstances that can help overcome these barriers; forms of youth participation and the RMSOS approach – Right, Means, Space, Opportunities, Support – for young people’s participation. Players also shared their own experiences and ideas on how to increase youth participation at the local level, which sparked a lively discussion and interest in holding the game in their organisations.
Board game about young people’s participation “Solutions exist!” developed in Ukraine in response to the request of national and local partners of the Council of Europe project “Youth for Democracy in Ukraine: Phase III” in 2023-2024 in the context of the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
The game can be used by youth workers, educators, trainers in civil society organisations, youth centres, youth spaces, youth councils during specialized trainings on youth participation, civic education lessons, in free time, etc. A board game can be an occasion to talk to young people about their participation and opportunities to participate both locally and nationally.
