On 21-23 October, a Ukrainian delegation, including the Head of the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnic Affaires and Freedom of Conscience, Viktor Yelenskyi, and the Deputy Head of the Office for the Ukrainian World Community and Humanitarian Initiatives, Head of the Humanitarian Initiatives Division of the Department of Public Diplomacy and Communications of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Bohdan Movchan, visited Bucharest, Romania. The purpose of the visit was to hold dedicated meetings and discuss deepening comprehensive Ukrainian-Romanian cooperation, in particular in the area of ensuring the rights and freedoms of national communities.
In the framework of the visit, meetings were held with Ana Cristina Tinca, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania for Strategic Affairs, Mykola Myroslav Petretskyi, Chairman of the Union of Ukrainians in Romania, and Cristina-Lavina Arnautu, Director of the Department for Romanians from Everywhere. During the meetings, the parties discussed the issues of strengthening cooperation in the field of observance of educational and cultural rights of national communities, harmonisation of Ukrainian and European legislation in the field of national minorities and humanitarian cooperation.
The visit of the Ukrainian delegation to Bucharest was supported by the joint project of the European Union and the Council of Europe ‘Support for implementing European standards relating to anti-discrimination and rights of national minorities in Ukraine’.
