On 15 April 2020, the SPERU Project team discussed (online) with Ms Olena Vysotska, recently appointed Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine, responsible inter alia for the penitentiary reform the possibility of implementing some Project activities remotely under the exceptional conditions of COVID-19 pandemic. Taking into account the recent institutional changes within the MoJ including the transformation of the State Criminal Executive Service of Ukraine into the Criminal Executive Directorate, it was agreed that priority should be given to organising an online training on Dynamic security for the representatives of the new Directorate and its six regional Departments.
 

The meeting was organised within the framework of the EU and Council of Europe Joint “Support to Prison Reform in Ukraine - SPERU”, which is designed to promote human rights compliant management of prisons and further development of a rehabilitative approach to offenders.
