On 26 June 2024 from 14:00 – 15:00 (EET), the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) holds a side event “Journalists Matter: A Call to Free Ukrainian Journalists Held in Captivity by the Russian Federation,” which will take place during the Summer Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Strasbourg, France. The working languages of the event will be English and Ukrainian with simultaneous interpretation provided.
Among the Ukrainian speakers are Mr Dmytro Lubinets, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms Yevheniia Kravchuk, Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Sub-Committee on Information Policy and European Integration, representatives of civil society, relatives and colleagues of the journalists held in captivity. In addition, on 26 June 2024 at 20:00 (CET), the organisers will support the screening of the documentary film "Big Russian Lies: How Russia is stealing history,” produced by Suspilne Ukraine.
The events are organised in co-operation with the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and the Council of Europe Division for Co-operation on Freedom of Expression, through the Project "Safeguarding Freedom of Expression and Freedom of Media in Ukraine”, and in partnership with the “Journalists Matter” Campaign for the Safety of Journalists.
