A Joint Effort: Preserving Zakarpattia's Cultural Heritage

On September 27, 2024, Uzhhorod, Zakarpattia, witnessed a vibrant celebration of cultural diversity. The first joint exhibition, "Past and Present of National Minorities (Communities) of Zakarpattia," brought together Roma, Hungarian, Jewish, Armenian, and Romanian communities to showcase their rich heritage.

The collaborative exhibition by the Local Initiative Group of National Communities and the Zakarpattia Regional Military Administration showcased the rich cultural heritage of diverse ethnic groups in the region. Through traditional crafts, photography, and artifacts, participants offered a glimpse into their past and present.

Yurii Huzynets, Deputy Head of Transcarpathia Regional Military Administration, emphasized the significance of this event in preserving the cultural heritage of national minorities. He noted that despite the challenges faced, these communities continue to contribute actively to public life while maintaining their unique identities.

The event was held in cooperation with the Zakarpattia Regional Administration with the support of the Council of Europe project ‘Supporting the reform of the national minority legal framework and the resilience of national minorities and Roma in Ukraine’.
