400 people learned how to apply a trauma-informed approach

112 men and boys and 288 women and girls joined the educational activities conducted by trainers of the Programme "Trauma-Informed Approach in the Context of Access to Human Rights and Essential Services for Internally Displaced Persons and Returnees to Ukraine", which is jointly implemented by Council of Europe projects "Facilitating access to human rights and essential services for internally displaced persons and returnees at the community level" and "Youth for Democracy in Ukraine: Phase III"

Young people, in particular, pupils, students, youth activists and workers, as well as psychologists, volunteers, NGO workers, became participants in educational events.  Among them are people with experience of internal displacement and return from abroad, as well as residents of host communities.

"These young people are a vulnerable category due to the aggravation of the security situation in the Sumy region, so they need the knowledge that my colleagues and I shared. Now it is extremely important to form resilience and the ability to hear yourself," said the trainer of the Programme Alina Kasyanova.

Knowledge and practical skills about approaches to working with people who have been affected by traumatic events were also useful to members of the NGO "On Guard" relocated to the city of Rivne. The trainer of the Programme, Natalia Kononenko, noted: "Members of the organisation actively work with internally displaced persons, it is important for them to be in the resource and to be able to determine their own resource channels."

A trauma-informed approach event that brought together displaced girls returning from abroad and residents of the host community were led by trainer Viktoriia Volska. "The girls will use the knowledge gained for themselves, first of all, and in the future it is possible to create self-help groups," Victoria shared.

The unique experience of organising an event for an audience of different ages during the workshop "BASIC Ph Resource Model" in the city of Chernivtsi was gained by the Programme trainer Volodymyr Kryzhanovskyi.

Practical exercises for self-help and self-healing, thanks to a series of activities by trainer Maya Chernova, came in handy for women who have experienced loss.

Psychologists and public sector workers strengthened each other in mastering stress management skills at a session conducted by the Programme trainer Khrystyna Mokriy in Lviv.

"The 4 Elements Protocol”, thanks to the trainer of the Programme Alina Shavela, was mastered by residents of Zdolbuniv: public activists, wives of the military. This knowledge was useful to the pupils of the Volyn Military Lyceum named after the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred thanks to the trainer Yana Romaniuk, and the students of the tenth grade of the city of Mykolaiv, thanks to the work of the trainer Anastasia Voitovska.

Trainer Oksana Slovik shared the skills acquired during the Programme with the wives and children of fallen soldiers during the long-term recovery programme in Poland.

Trainers of the NGO "Stan" became participants in the session of the trainer of the Programme Anastasia Netrebytska "Burnout and Fatigue from Compassion".

Trainers continue to plan information and educational activities for young people and people who have been forcibly displaced or returned from abroad.

The programme is jointly implemented in 2024-2025 by the Council of Europe projects "Facilitating access to human rights and essential services for internally displaced persons and returnees at the community level" and "Youth for democracy in Ukraine: Phase III" within the framework of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine "Resilience, Recovery and Reconstruction" for 2023-2026.
