16 days of activism against gender-based violence in Ukraine – new information materials

At the launch of the 2020 16-days of Activism against gender-based violence in Ukraine, the Council of Europe presented a report and information materials developed to support the Ministry of Social Policy’s ongoing campaign throughout Ukraine.

The Media Guidance for the Development of Self-Regulatory Standards to Report on Cases of Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence provides practical steps for the development of a voluntary code of conduct for journalists when reporting cases of violence against women and domestic violence, based on Article 17 of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention).

A set of user-friendly informative infographics and brochures were developed to clarify information about the Istanbul Convention: Myths and Facts about the Istanbul Convention in Ukraine and How the system of assistance to victims of violence against women and domestic violence will need to be improved after Istanbul Convention ratification. A video is currently in development.

The presentation of the materials was attended by 24 participants including Ukrainian government officials, journalists and representatives of media organisations and civil society representatives.  All activities fall under the project, The Istanbul Convention: a tool to advance in fighting violence against women and domestic violence in Ukraine.
