“Data protection: legal regulation and practical aspects” – Joint EU-Council of Europe project published new handbook

Consultants of the Joint Project “European Union and Council of Europe working together to strengthen the Ombudsperson’s capacity to protect human rights” Markiyan Bem and Ivan Horodyskyi have developed an amended version of the handbook “Personal data protection: legal regulation and practical aspects”.

The text of the document is available at the website of  the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine.

The manual covers legal and practical aspects of the data protection.

The authors provided detailed and user-friendly information on:

  • sources of legal regulation of relations related to data processing and data protection;
  • principles and grounds for data processing;
  • rights of the data subject;
  • procedure of data processing and data protection by the data owner;
  • liability for violation of the personal data protection legislation in Ukraine, etc.

For better understanding of the material, the authors supplemented the legal aspects of personal data protection with examples from the Ukrainian practices and case-law of the European Court of Human Rights. Therefore, the handbook will be useful and easy to understand for both data protection professionals and lawyers, as well as citizens who want to delve into the subject to know how to protect their right to privacy and personal data.

Experts of the Joint Project European Union and Council of Europe working together to strengthen the Ombudsperson’s capacity to protect human rights” hope that the handbook  will help raise awareness of personal data protection and strengthen human rights in Ukraine.
