Responsibility and opportunities connected to respecting human rights and environment standards in business operations, human rights impact of foreign investment, responsible investing were discussed at a high-level international conference co-organised by the Council of Europe and the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia. The conference brought together high level government officials, international experts and human rights specialists. The discussions touched upon possibility of business protection at the European Court of Human Rights and specifically its case-law on investor-state disputes and taxation.
Participants also examined best practices from countries like France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany, particularly regarding the development and implementation of National Action Plans on Business and Human Rights and related regulations.
National authorities of the Republic of Armenia - the Office of the Human Rights Defender, Parliament, Ministry of Economy, Environment and others took an active part and contributed to the discussions.
The Conference underscored the responsibility of states in setting up regulatory foundations to ensure responsible business conduct while preserving a competitive economic climate.
