Judges of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) met on 17 April 2025 to discuss the preliminary conclusions of the Report on Enhancing the Consistent Application of the Law by the SCJ of the Republic of Moldova, developed under the Council of Europe project on Strengthening the Institutional Capacity of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Republic of Moldova.
Based on an in-depth review of current working methods, national legislation and comparative European standards set by the European Court of Human Rights, Venice Commission, and the Consultative Council of European Judges, the Report outlines concrete steps the Supreme Court can take to reinforce its core mandate of unifying judicial practice across the country.
During the roundtable, participants evaluated the strengths and weaknesses of the existent mechanisms. The report—set to be finalised shortly—will serve as a practical roadmap for strengthening the role of the Supreme Court in uniform interpretation and application of the law by improving coordination among all court levels and modernising access to case-law.
