2008 - Katowice

The Katowice townKatowice, the main town of the region of Upper Silesia, is now one of Europe’s major industrial centres, where tradition mingles with modernity.  Katowice has developed an extensive network of international contacts with municipalities in central, western and eastern Europe, as well as the USA and China.

In Europe, it is involved in particularly intense co-operation with Cologne (Germany), Groningen (Netherlands), Kosice (Slovakia), Miskolc (Hungary), Odense (Denmark), Ostrava and Opava (Czech Republic) and Strasbourg and Saint-Etienne (France). However, it is also through its numerous economic, scientific and socio-cultural institutions that Katowice also takes part in many European projects with foreign towns.
