23 Moldovan young people from across the country (Chișinău, Anenii Noi, Basarabeasca, Criuleni, Dubăsari, Orhei, Râșcani, Telenești), as well as from diaspora communities (in Ireland, Romania, and Germany), participated in the Electoral School for Young People, held from 6th to 9th August 2026 in Cotesti. This event provided a transformative learning experience strengthening Moldova’s next generation of civic leaders and voters with essential skills and knowledge throughhands-on election simulations, open debates, and practical workshops.
Over four dynamic days, participants explored a broad range of topics, covering democratic values, electoral systems and electoral cycle, election management, and alternative voting methods. They tackled real-world electoral challenges such as social media influence, misinformation, and the impact of artificial intelligence. The program also placed a strong emphasis on accessibility, gender equality, and ethical conduct throughout the electoral process.
A highlight of the Electoral School was its immersive electoral simulation, where participants formed campaign teams, presented platforms, delivered speeches, took part in mock voting, and experienced vote counting and the announcement of results. These activities deepened their practical understanding of the election process, while emphasizing the importance of integrity, transparency, and active civic engagement.
Ms. Natalia Țurcan, Interim Director of Centre for Continuous Electoral Training, emphasized the importance of building democratic awareness among Moldova’s new generation: “Our commitment is to equip young people with the practical tools and values required for meaningful participation. Experiences like the Electoral School ensure that every voice is heard and every vote truly matters.”
Mr. Roman Banari, Council of Europe’s consultant, reaffirmed the Council’s dedication to strengthening democratic practice: “Education and direct engagement are the keys to building lasting trust in electoral processes. Supporting youth in Moldova empowers the country's democratic future.”
The activity was carried out in partnership with Centre for Continuous Electoral Training within the Project ”Improving Electoral Practice in the Republic of Moldova (IEPRM) 2025-2028”, part of the Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova 2025-2028.
