Internet Governance is understood as the development and application by governments, the private sector and civil society, in their respective roles, of shared principles, norms, rules, decision-making procedures and programmes that shape the evolution and use of the internet. In order to ensure a sustainable, people-centred and rights-based approach to the internet, the Council of Europe engages in setting and promoting standards, building partnerships and fostering multi-stakeholder dialogue. It has notably developed dialogue with the ITU, ICANN, WSIS, IGF, EuroDIG, SEEDIG.
