The Council of Europe will participate in the 20th UN Internet Governance Forum (IGF), hosted by the government of Norway. On the opening day, 23 June, Deputy Secretary General Bjørn Berge will participate in the high-level session Losing the information space? Ensuring fundamental rights and resilient societies in the age of Big Tech (16.00 17:30). The Deputy Secretary General will also participate in an event on Advancing Equality and Inclusion in AI, aimed at presenting measures that can be taken to operationalise safeguards and remedies against discrimination in the use of AI systems, to engage with groups most at risk and to equip human rights supervisory bodies (14:20-14:40). On 25 June, the Council of Europe will organise the open forum AI and Disinformation: Countering the Threats to Democratic Dialogue, which will tackle the challenges deriving from the use of AI-tools generating and spreading disinformation and the threats they pose to democratic dialogue. The session will also examine the role and responsibilities of digital platforms in disseminating false AI-generated information and promoting quality journalism (12:45-14:00).
