Workshop 6 – Capacity building: Judicial training
8 November, 14.00 - 17.00
Capacity building is a key enabler to enhance knowledge, competencies and skills of all the actors involved in combating cybercrime. This also calls for the international and regional organisations that are working in this field, to join forces and exploit to the best, the synergies existing between different programmes to avoid overlap and streamline resources.
Experience suggests that judges and prosecutors encounter difficulties in coping with the new realities of the cyber world. Particular efforts are therefore required to enable them to prosecute and adjudicate cybercrime and make use of electronic evidence through training, networking and specialisation. While substantial actions were taken by countries in the region to ensure access to proper specialized training of the judiciary and prosecutorial services, including through capacity building projects, there is still significant room for improvement.
This workshop will further explore what are the latest developments at regional level in terms of capacity building for judges and prosecutors and promote a better coordination between different programmes, through exploiting the existing synergies, to avoid overlap and streamline resources, and to empower cooperation between countries and make use of existing knowledge and expertise in the region.
The workshop is co-hosted by the CARICOM IMPACS.
