Latvia has adopted an Action Plan for the Implementation of the Media Policy Guidelines 2025–2027, marking an important step to improve the safety of journalists and strengthen media freedom.
The plan aims to ensure a sustainable, diverse and secure media environment, recognising the importance of independent journalism for democratic resilience. It includes measures to protect journalists from violence, threats and harassment, improve digital safety, and reinforce legal and institutional safeguards.
Prepared through a involving public authorities, media organisations and experts, the plan also addresses broader structural issues such as media funding sustainability and independence.
Latvia’s initiative contributes to the objectives of the Council of Europe Journalists Matter campaign, which promotes national action to improve protection for journalists and media professionals across Europe.
