The Swedish government presented in early 2024 a new unified National Strategy Against Violent Extremism and Terrorism, in which crimes that threaten democracy are particularly highlighted. The initiative aims to ensure that the ongoing work regarding the related issue of safety of journalists will be sustainable and prioritized by relevant authorities. Prosecutors are specially appointed in all public chambers within the Public Prosecutor’s Office to combat hate crimes and other crime which are a threat to democracy.
