In 2025, Luxembourg pursued several initiatives aimed at strengthening the long-term sustainability and public recognition of journalism. Proposed reforms to the press aid regime seek to improve financial support mechanisms for media outlets, encourage innovation and support smaller journalistic projects, while maintaining safeguards that contribute to employment stability for journalists.

At the same time, preparations began for a series of awareness-raising activities scheduled for 2026, including a public exhibition on the role of journalism in society organised in cooperation with the University of Luxembourg, training modules for public officials on the importance of journalism and freedom of expression, and dedicated support for journalists’ safety training through the Press Council. Additional initiatives linked to the centenary celebrations of the Luxembourg Association of Professional Journalists will further promote public understanding of the role of journalism in a democratic society.
