Following its inaugural meeting on 9 January 2025, the Belgian focal point group established under the Journalists Matter campaign continued to coordinate Belgian engagement with journalists’ safety issues throughout the year. The group ensured the preparation and timely submission of Belgian responses to alerts published on the Council of Europe Platform for the Safety of Journalists and facilitated exchanges between relevant authorities and stakeholders on issues affecting media freedom and journalists’ protection.

By bringing together actors involved in the implementation of the campaign, the mechanism contributes to strengthening national coordination and promoting a coherent approach to journalists’ safety in Belgium.
