Nestled between the Saint Lawrence River and the Assomption River, Repentigny has continued to develop, all the while preserving its assets and addressing contemporary issues. Located in the Lanaudière region of Quebec and a member of the Montreal Metropolitan Community (CMM), Repentigny is a city that recognises the importance of a culturally safe environment, free from discrimination in all its forms. Reflecting on Repentigny as it stands today, the city envisions a future where collective well-being is central to its actions, guided by its core values of boldness, authenticity, kindness, and ongoing improvement. By ensuring fair governance in line with the principles of equity and inclusion, the city guarantees respect for the needs of its community. Prioritising self-determination, Repentigny is committed to providing equitable access to municipal services to its entire population.

Over the past 30 years, Repentigny's population has more than doubled. Tens of thousands of people from various countries, large centres, neighbouring towns and remote villages have chosen Repentigny as their home.

Today, the city has a population of nearly 89 857, 18% of whom are first- and second-generation immigrants, making it the 13th largest city in Quebec.

In total, nearly 80 countries of birth are represented in the area. Visible minorities are composed, in order of importance, of Black, Arab, Latin American and Southeast Asian people. By way of comparison, the immigrant population in Repentigny is similar to that of the cities of Terrebonne, Sherbrooke and Quebec City.

Repentigny is home to 85% of the immigrant population of the Regional County Municipality (RCM) of L'Assomption.

Reimagined to foster stronger connections with its increasingly diverse community, the city, as a local authority, is committed to delivering personalized, high-quality municipal services and creating a living environment that supports the well-being and fulfilment of its residents.

The municipality is transforming at the same pace as its citizens, who are evolving with it, driving it forward and shaping it on a daily basis. In order to enable this transformation and adapt its service offering to the current needs of Repentigny residents, the municipality has implemented numerous initiatives.

Since 2022, the Chantier sur le vivre-ensemble de Repentigny (Repentigny Working Group on Living Together) has been brought to life through the cross-functional deployment of its Strategy for an Inclusive City and the establishment of its Social Innovation Laboratory, in collaboration with colleges and universities. In addition, the city actively participates in several bodies, including the Table Immigration Concertation Intégration et Inclusion (T-ICII) of the MRC L'Assomption, the UNESCO Network of Inclusive Municipalities, the Réseau des municipalités en immigration et en relations interculturelles (REMIRI) du Québec, and the Canadian Intermunicipal Equity Network. Through these various initiatives, Repentigny aims to develop and maintain a network that focuses on living together and interactions between individuals, organisations and institutions.

The City of Repentigny recognises its responsibility to create an environment that promotes social cohesion for all. It is therefore committed to using all the means at its disposal to ensure that its entire community can thrive in a safe, equitable and inclusive environment.

In a continuous and constructive manner, with an emphasis on openness to dialogue and exchange, the city is pursuing several major projects in this area, based on the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI).

In the interest of equity, the city believes that everyone, regardless of their identity, should be treated fairly.

In the interest of diversity, the city recognises the richness of experiences and differences.

In the interest of inclusion, it seeks to ensure an environment where all people are treated fairly and have access to the same opportunities.

The city recognises the richness of diversity and thus reaffirms the need to promote and encourage the participation of its entire community, including people from under-represented, marginalised, visible and non-visible groups.

In addition, the municipality has taken tangible steps to ensure that its entire population feels included in the delivery of services. In other words, municipal employees, with the cooperation of citizens, act as the main ambassadors of the city's inclusion policy.

With this in mind, the city prioritises the inclusion of EDI principles in its policies, as they generate a measurable, constructive and positive social impact, while embodying factors of excellence in terms of the primacy of the individual. Innovative and transparent practices form the backbone of this approach.
