Ireland : concerns over Roma and Travellers

Irish society has demonstrated increasing levels of tolerance in recent years, but national strategies or actions plans on key issues – such as the integration of Travellers and Roma communities – suffer from a lack of clear and concrete implementation plans.

Furthermore, Traveller communities in particular continue to experience discrimination in numerous aspects of their daily life including employment, housing, education and the provision of health services.

These are among the main findings of the fourth opinion on Ireland from the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities (FCNM).

The report, which contains several recommendations for immediate action, has been published together with the comments of the Irish authorities.

It will now be transmitted to the Committee of Ministers for appropriate follow-up.
