Standing Conference of European Ministers of Education
The 22nd session of the Standing Conference of European Ministers of Education took place in Istanbul on 4-5 May 2007.
The Prime Minister of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Maud de Boer-Buquicchio, opened the conference. The theme of the Conference was ‘Building a more humaine and inclusive Europe: role of education policies’. The conference, which attracted around 200 participants, revolved around three main themes:
- children’s rights in the field of education;
- introducing education policies that promote greater social cohesion and respect for diversity;
- lifelong learning.
The Council of Europe’s Steering Committee for Higher Education and Research contributed to the Conference by holding a session on ‘Educating for a sustainable society: the role of higher education’.
