“The Image of the Other in the History Classroom”

Academy of Bad Wildbad, 3-7 May 2010

CONTEXT

This training seminar will focus on the contribution of history teaching to better mutual understanding across the continent and beyond. The following questions will be dealt with: Which competences do history teachers need? Which knowledge and which skills and attitudes do they need so that they will teach history in an emancipatory way, while applying the methodology of multiperspectivity, in order to move beyond a narrow view of history and the stereotyping of the others.

The seminar will make use of Council of Europe project results and teacher training material and invite participants to explore together the competences, skills and attitudes needed and the ways of developing them in the day-to-day teaching practice.
