Forthcoming Conference on "Learning and Living Democracy for All"
On 15-16 April 2010, the Conference will bring together representatives of the States Parties to the European Cultural Convention, decision makers, education practitioners, international institutions and civil society representatives, with a view to discussing the results achieved under the Council of Europe Programme "Learning and Living Democracy for All" 2006-2009 and future co-operation activities in the field of Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights (2010-2014). The Conference will be held at the Council of Europe headquarters in Strasbourg, and will be organised in the framework of the Swiss Presidency of the Committee of Ministers. The discussions will also contribute to the preparation of the 23rd session of the Council of Europe Standing Conference of Ministers of Education (Slovenia, 4-5 June 2010).

Meeting on the World Programme for Human Rights Education (3 December 2009)
On 3 December 2009, the 7th Meeting of the United Nations Inter-Agency Coordinating Committee “Human Rights Education in the School System” (UNIACC) was held in Geneva. The meeting was devoted to the evaluation of the 1st phase of the World Programme for Human Rights (2005-2009), and the preparation of the 2nd phase of the Programme (2010-2014). The participants included representatives of the OHCHR, UNESCO and UNICEF. The Council of Europe is invited to the meetings of UNIACC with a special guest status. (more)

Stakeholder Conference on Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights held in Ankara, Turkey (11-13 November 2009)
A major stakeholder conference on democratic citizenship and human rights education was held in Ankara from 11-12 November 2009 in co-operation with the Ministry of National Education and the Council of Europe. The Conference gathered some 200 participants from all sectors of education in Turkey, including the Ministry of National Education, the Board of Education, university professors, provincial authorities, teachers, students and NGO representatives. The Network of EDC/HRE coordinators met in Prague, Czech Republic (19-20 November 2009)
On 19-20 November 2009, a meeting of the network of the EDC/HRE coordinators was hosted in Prague by the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, in co-operation with the Research Institute of Education. Mr Jindřich Fryč, Head of the International Relations Department, welcomed the participants on behalf of the Ministry. The coordinators discussed the evaluation of the Council of Europe Programme "Learning and living democracy for all" (2006-2009) and future programme of activities for 2010-2014. (more)

Meeting of the Black Sea and Baltic region network of EDC/HRE coordinators held in Tallinn, Estonia (5-7 October 2009)
On 5-7 October, the third meeting of the Black Sea and Baltic region network of coordinators for citizenship and human rights education (EDC/HRE) was held in Tallinn, Estonia. The meeting was hosted by the Ministry of Education and Research of Estonia. The participants shared information on the recent developments in the field democratic governance of educational institutions, discussed future co-operation activities and visited Kernu basic school in the outskirts of Tallinn.
