Forthcoming Conference on "Learning and Living Democracy for All"

On 15-16 April 2010, a conference on ‘Learning and Living Democracy For All’ will bring together representatives of the States Parties to the European Cultural Convention, decision makers, education practitioners, international institutions and civil society representatives. The participants will discuss the results achieved under the Council of Europe Programme "Learning and Living Democracy for All" 2006-2009 and future co-operation activities in the field of Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights (2010-2014).

Meeting on the World Programme for Human Rights Education (3 December 2009)

On 3 December 2009, the 7th Meeting of the United Nations Inter-Agency Coordinating Committee “Human Rights Education in the School System” (UNIACC) was held in Geneva. The meeting was devoted to the evaluation of the 1st phase of the World Programme for Human Rights (2005-2009), and the preparation of the 2nd phase of the Programme (2010-2014). The participants included representatives of the OHCHR, UNESCO and UNICEF. The Council of Europe is invited to the meetings of UNIACC with a special guest status. (more)

Stakeholder Conference on Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights held in Ankara, Turkey (11-13 November 2009)

A major stakeholder conference on democratic citizenship and human rights education was held in Ankara from 11-12 November 2009 in co-operation with the Ministry of National Education and the Council of Europe. The Conference gathered some 200 participants from all sectors of education in Turkey, including the Ministry of National Education, the Board of Education, university professors, provincial authorities, teachers, students and NGO representatives. Full version of the "Compendium of Good Practice" is now available online

A full version of the publication "Human Rights Education in the School Systems of Europe, Central Asia and North America: A Compendium of Good Practice" is now available online. This version includes the description of, as well as examples from, 101 exemplary practices of human rights education, education for democratic citizenship, and education for mutual respect and understanding from Europe, North America and Central Asia. This online version complements the hard copy and pdf versions of the Compendium that had been distributed earlier, and which included only the description of these good practices.

The Network of EDC/HRE coordinators met in Prague, Czech Republic (19-20 November 2009)

On 19-20 November 2009, a meeting of the network of the EDC/HRE coordinators was hosted in Prague by the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, in co-operation with the Research Institute of Education. Mr Jindřich Fryč, Head of the International Relations Department, welcomed the participants on behalf of the Ministry. The coordinators discussed the evaluation of the Council of Europe Programme "Learning and living democracy for all" (2006-2009) and future programme of activities for 2010-2014. (more)
