28 November 2012, 14.00-18.00
The Janusz Korczak Seminar on “Education for Democracy: Purpose, Practice and Perspectives” will be organised by the Council of Europe in cooperation with the Polish Permanent Representation in Strasbourg. The aim of this event is to reflect on the interrelation of pedagogy and democracy and on the development of competences necessary for the future of democratic societies, while paying tribute to Janusz Korczak, whose legacy includes promotion of children’s rights and democracy at school.
Agora Building, 29 November 2012, 13.00-14.00
The side event will provide an opportunity to view and discuss a 28-minute documentary film on the impact of human rights education in people's lives. A Path to Dignity, which focuses on three case studies concerning school children, law enforcement agents and women victims of violence, has been jointly produced by Human Rights Education Associates (HREA), Soka Gakkai International (SGI) and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). The three partners are organizing the side event.
The side event organised by the OSCE/ODIHR will provide an opportunity to present and discuss the new tools for promoting effective human rights education in two environments: law enforcement agencies and secondary schools.
