Parliamentary Assembly President meets Ban Ki-Moon, speaks at event on women's rights

Strasbourg, 01.03.2013 – Jean-Claude Mignon, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), will meet UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon in New York on 5 March.

On the day before, he will speak at a side event organised by the Council of Europe and the permanent mission of France to the United Nations, at the 57th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women. This event is aimed at promoting the swift entry into force of the Istanbul Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, as well as encouraging as many Council of Europe member States and non-members as possible to accede to the convention.

Mr Mignon will also hold bilateral meetings with Vuk Jeremic, President of the 67th Session of the UN General Assembly, Lakshmi Puri, Deputy Director of UN Women – the United Nations entity for gender equality and the empowerment of women – as well as with ambassadors of PACE member states, observers and partners.
