The Project partners and Ukrainian justice sector stakeholders met on June 19, 2015 in Kyiv to mark an official opening of the Project within the framework of its Kick-off Steering Committee meeting.

Representatives of the Ukrainian judiciary, Ministry of Justice of Ukraine and other justice sector agencies, the EU Delegation to Ukraine, other international development partners, academia and representatives of specialised media attended the event.

The meeting was opened by Mr. Christos Giakoumopoulos, Special Advisor of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe for Ukraine, who emphasised that “a comprehensive and concerted reform of the justice sector is a precondition in order to consolidate the efforts related to European integration of Ukraine”. Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Justice Mr. Giya Getsadze said that Ukraine would make all efforts in reforming its justice sector in accordance with the highest European standards.

The Project team presented to the participants a draft work plan for 2015 and emphasized that many activities would be implemented in close cooperation with the EU Project “Support to Justice Sector Reforms in Ukraine”, and that every effort will be made to coordinate the work with the other donor initiatives in the field. The Steering Committee members agreed on the next steps with regard to consolidating the work plan.
