European Dialogue on Internet Governance in The Hague

A Council of Europe delegation will contribute to the debates of 2019 edition of the European Dialogue on Internet Governance (EuroDIG) to be held in The Hague on 19 and 20 June.

Organised under the theme “Co-operating in the digital age”, the event will bring together representatives of governments, international organisations, business, civil society, academia and the technical community to exchange views about the Internet and how it is governed.

Topics on the agenda include the challenges posed by artificial intelligence, cybercrime, threats to freedom of expression and data protection.

Jan Kleijssen, Director of Information Society and Action against Crime will lead Council of Europe´s delegation, co-moderate a plenary session on emerging technologies and human rights (19 June, 16:30-18:00) and participate in the plenary session Tackling online harms – a regulation minefield? Present and future. (20 June, 16:30-17:30).

On 19 June the delegation will participate in the workshop GPDR implementation: Blind spots, opportunities and the way forward (14:00-15:00), and on 20 June in the workshops Fending off trolls – Journalists in defence of democracy (11:00-12:30) and Criminal justice in cyberspace: more of everything? (14:00-15:30).

On the eve of the EURODIG the Council of Europe will organise a special event on artificial intelligence as a risk to enhance discrimination. (14:30 to 16:00).

The EURODIG 2019 is hosted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy of the Netherlands in cooperation with ECP – Netherlands Platform for the Information Society, the Municipality of The Hague and SIDN – the .nl domain registry.
