Memorandum of Co-operation
Signed in Paris, UNESCO, on 24 April 2008
The objective of the Memorandum of Co-operation is to establish a working framework to organise and develop collaboration between the Council of Europe and the UN/ISDR oriented towards achieving regional support for disaster risk reduction.
Both Organisations have identified in particular the following areas of co-operation:
- reduction of vulnerability, risk mapping, and early warning
- establishment, strengthening and networking of national platforms for disaster risk reduction in the member states of the Council of Europe to reduce vulnerability and the risks of disasters
- education and knowledge on disaster risk reduction
- mainstreaming of disaster risk reduction into sustainable development plans and initiatives
- ensure follow-up on reporting of information on achievements in the implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA) through national platforms and/or Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA) focal points
