Description
The Monastery of Bebenhausen is a former Cistercian complex founded in 1184. The Monastery buildings served also as hunting lodge for the kings of Württemberg and as the seat of the Parliament of the State of Württemberg-Hohenzollern (www.cister.net/abbayes/fr/138/bebenhausen). The complex is a property of the State, and is managed by the State Palaces and Gardens of Baden-Württemberg.
Maulbronn Monastery is a former Cistercian abbey founded in the 12th century, and the best preserved medieval monastery complex north of the Alps. After the Reformation, the complex was converted into a still operational Protestant school. The Monastery hosts a museum complex on the Cistercian monastic life and history.
The Salem Monastery is a former Cistercian Monastery founded in 1137. After severe damages and reconstructions, the complex became property of the Margraves of Baden in 1802, after its secularisation. Since then, the complex has been served as the residence of the margravial family, and since 1920 as the seat of the School at Schloss Salem.
The State Palaces and Gardens of Baden-Württemberg is an institution under the Ministery of Finance of the (Ministerium für Finanzen Baden-Württemberg). It manages the important palaces, castles, monasteries and gardens owned by the State of Baden-Württemberg.
