A parliamentary conference on this topic will take place at the Hungarian National Assembly on 27 October, organised by PACE in co-operation with the host parliament and bringing together parliamentarians, education authorities and academics, as well as youth representatives.

There will be opening speeches by the Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly, the President of PACE, the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe and Hungary’s Minister of Education and Children’s Affairs.

Topics to be covered include democracy across generations, rebuilding the trust of young people, what parliaments can do to foster their participation, learning and practicing democracy and empowering young people.

On the eve of the main conference, a separate youth-focused event will take place on 26 October at the European Youth Centre in Budapest.

Organised in the context of the Council’s New Democratic Pact for Europe, youth representatives will take part in a “reverse parliament” with MPs and discuss co-decision mechanisms, among other topics.
