- Description
- The Augustinian Monastery of Erfurt is a former monastery founded in the 13th century, and one of the most famous Luther sites. Martin Luther lived as a monk in the Augustinian Monastery from 1505 to 1511, where he got his essential impulses for the later Reformation. After the Reformation, the monastery became the property of the Evangelical Church, and then secularized. Today the building is primarily used as a conference and meeting center.
The Conference and Meeting Point of the Evangelical Augustinian Monastery in Erfurt is a a legally dependent institution of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Central Germany (Evangelischen Kirche in Mitteldeutschland).
