International seminar in Copenhagen, Denmark, on changing attitudes and prejudice about persons with disabilities

Government officials, persons with disabilities and their representatives, service providers, non-governmental organisations, independent experts and private sector and media representatives are meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark on 13 and 14 December 2017 for a seminar to discuss awareness raising for persons with disabilities.

The seminar has been organised by the Danish Ministry for Children and Social Affairs, in co-operation with the Secretariat of the Council of Europe, the Danish Disabled Persons’ Organisations and the Danish Disability Council  as part of the Danish Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers. It will be opened by the Head of Equality Division of the Council of Europe Liri Kopaci-Di Michele and the Chairman of the Danish Disabled Persons’ Organisations Thorkild Olesen.

Over the course of two days the seminar will focus on the possibilities of effectively countering prejudice and negative attitudes towards people with disabilities by means of co-operation between authorities, civil society, and other stakeholders. The seminar will present examples of good practice of awareness raising in the media, in sports, in the employment sector, and in schools.
