Atrás Intercultural Weeks

Purpose: "Intercultural Weeks" initiative highlights Odesa's intercultural spirit, fostering dialogue, exchange, and respect among diverse national and ethnic communities, breaking stereotypes, combating discrimination, celebrating cultural diversity, and promoting unity through intercultural understanding in the city’s social life.

Rationale: Odesa’s diverse cultural landscape is both a strength and a challenge. With numerous national and ethnic communities living side by side, fostering intercultural understanding and dialogue is essential to build trust, break down stereotypes, and create a harmonious society. "Intercultural Weeks" provide a platform to celebrate diversity, address discrimination, and strengthen unity, contributing to the city's social cohesion and cultural richness.

The project’s main goals are to promote intercultural understanding, break down stereotypes and combat discrimination, celebrate cultural diversity, strengthen social cohesion, and create a unified community where diversity is seen as a source of enrichment and strength.

Process: The main process of the project involved the active participation of the Bulgarian, French, Greek, and Jewish communities in the Municipality of Odesa. Special attention was given to supporting the Odesa City Council and incorporating intercultural values into the local social sphere, in line with the Council of Europe's Intercultural Cities Programme.

The project aims to expand the involvement of other cultural societies in the city and to establish it as a recurring annual initiative. This ongoing effort seeks to strengthen intercultural dialogue, support community integration, and promote the sustainable development of the diverse intercultural community in Odesa.
