Back Council of Europe Secretary General Jagland responds to International Advisory Panel review of Maidan investigations

Strasbourg, 31 March 2015: "The review of the Maidan investigations by the independent International Advisory Panel was endorsed by all Member States including Ukraine. I would like to thank President Poroshenko for enabling and supporting the Panel's work. The findings of the report are a solid basis to progress the investigations and carry out the necessary reforms in Ukraine. The Council of Europe will support the Ukrainian authorities in this endeavor", he said.

Today, the International Advisory Panel presented its review of the investigations into the violent incidents during the Maidan demonstrations at a press Conference in Kyiv. The Panel found that, in many respects, the investigations have failed to satisfy the requirements of the European Convention of Human Rights.

The International Advisory Panel was constituted by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe to oversee that the investigations, into the violent incidents which took place during the Maidan demonstrations from 30 November 2013 to 21 February 2014, met all the requirements of the European Convention on Human Rights and the case-law of the European Court.
