The Register of Damage for Ukraine, together with the Council of Europe project “Combating Violence against Women in Ukraine - Phase III” (COVAW-III), held an event entitled “The Register of Damage for Ukraine: Submitting Claims Related to Violations of Personal Integrity” on 12 October 2026 in Kyiv.
The awareness-raising and capacity-building session brought together representatives of civil society organisations that bring together and provide support to war-affected populations, particularly wives and mothers of missing persons and prisoners of war. Participants included members of the Public Council under the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War. The meeting aimed to expand the capacity of civil society to disseminate information about the Register and assist with the submission of claims, as well as to discuss the application of gender-sensitive and survivor-centred approaches.
Particular attention was paid to considering people’s needs and experiences, respecting their dignity, and avoiding re-traumatisation when providing assistance with submitting claims to the Register. The practical part of the event included examining cases involving the disappearance of a close family member and multiple forms of harm inflicted on women during the full-scale aggression.
The Register and the Council of Europe project “Combating Violence against Women in Ukraine - Phase III” will continue to cooperate with civil society so that everyone affected by the Russian aggression, and women in particular, have access to information about submitting claims to the Register and its role within the international compensation mechanism.
