On 1 June on the occasion of the International Children’s Day in Ukraine, the Order on the implementation of child-friendly justice standards was signed by Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, Justice Minister Denys Malyuska and First Deputy Minister of social policy Daria Marchak.

• The project aims to adapt the criminal process to the needs of children, promote their reintegration and rehabilitation.

The standards are the result of joint work of prosecutors, Ukrainian and international experts, prepared with the support of the Council of Europe project "Combating violence against children in Ukraine, Phase III".

The Council of Europe has developed a number of standards in the field of Child-Friendly Justice. The most comprehensive list of standards is set out in the Guidelines on Child-Friendly Justice adopted by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in 2010. The implementation of these guidelines and other aspects of child-friendly justice is a key priority of the Council of Europe Strategy for the Rights of the Child for 2016-2021.

"Only through joint efforts can a system be built where the interests of the child will be protected and prioritised. While the Armed Forces of Ukraine are fighting to ensure a restful sleep and a peaceful morning for our children, we must act to prevent further escalation of crime in the children's environment," said Andrii Kostin.

• The project will be piloted in five regions and in Kyiv. The Council of Europe project "Protecting the rights of Ukrainian children during and in post-war context” is supporting the development and delivery of a training course for professionals of multidisciplinary teams in the regions where the project will be implemented.
