Online discussion “Safety of journalists and countering impunity for the crimes against journalists in Ukraine”

On June 5, on the eve of the Day of Ukrainian Journalist, the online discussion "Safety of journalists and countering impunity for the crimes against journalists in Ukraine" is to be held. It is organised by the EU-funded project «EU and Council of Europe working together to support freedom of media in Ukraine».

During the discussion it is planned to consider the safety of journalists in Ukraine and the state of investigation of cases initiated on the facts of obstruction of professional journalists activity in recent years. This is the issue of great concern to national and international institutions, given the murders of journalists Vadym Komarov, Pavlo Sheremeta, Heorhii Gongadze and other cases of physical aggression.

Media professionals and representatives of the civil society are invited to participate in the discussion.

The discussion will be held in on-line format with simultaneous translation to English/Ukrainian.

There will be online streaming of the event on the Facebook page.

Background information: Project «EU and Council of Europe working together to support freedom of media in Ukraine» aims to enhance the role of media, its freedom and safety, and the public broadcaster as an instrument for consensus building in the Ukrainian society and is implemented until 9 July 2021.
